The inner courtyard of the listed commercial building in Berlin-Mitte is characterised by its narrow, elongated form. This linearity of the space was perceived as potential and elaborated by adding linear design elements. A 17m long water table, accompanied by a stone bench as well as long-format slabs as flooring, spatially implement the qualities of this place. The found large-format granite slabs are rearranged and complement the linear composition as a "historical trace". A bed of ferns and grasses adds the horticultural component to the stone courtyard and contrasts with the dynamics of linearity.
The water table now brings nature into the courtyard in a different way: on the one hand through the element of water, and on the other as an image in the form of reflections of passing clouds. The thin film of water on the table made of shell limestone makes it possible to experience rain, wind and sun through changes in the surface, such as ripples and reflections.
