Skate Bowl at the Hirschgarten

In the course of the relocation of a wide variety of railway uses, development potential for urban expansion and redensification has been released in Munich - as in many other cities. The Bahn 21 project is located along the Pasing - Laim - Hauptbahnhof railway line.

As part of the conversion of the former railway operating areas, new parks and open spaces are also being created in connection with new residential quarters. In addition to the Arnulfpark, this includes the Pionierpark, which currently already runs about 3km from the main station to the west, accompanying the railway. Here, in a gravel and crushed stone area that has been left relatively close to its natural state, a superordinate cycle and foot path runs that connects the city districts with the city centre. Both parks were planned by realgrün landscape architects.

A new park was created on the level of the old Hirschgarten public park, which realgrün landscape architects realized after winning a competition in 2007 - 2010. The client was the company Aurelis and the City of Munich.
Next to large meadows overgrown with fruit trees, which invite you to lie down, picnic and play, there is a play and sports platform at the interface to the pioneer park, connected to the neighborhood-connecting promenade. The target group here is young people. Ball game facilities, a climbing wall and the pool skate facility are integrated here and are used intensively.

An important requirement in the planning was to protect the neighboring residential development from noise. For this reason, the actual skate facility is surrounded by a grandstand and the bowl as a screen-like wall. Without proof of noise protection, this facility could not have been built here.

For the design of the actual skate pool, Erwin Recksteiner was called in as a specialist, who was also in contact with members of the local skater scene. The statics were provided by the engineering office Christoph Ackermann.

In 12 months of construction time, the skate facility was created as the last building block of the Hirschgarten expansion. Precast concrete elements as well as in-situ concrete were used in a mixed construction method. The bowl and the pool were manufactured in shotcrete technique and subsequent manual processing.
