Elisabethkai Salzburg

In the course of the flood protection of the city of Salzburg, an approx. 1 km long wall along the bank of the Salzach became necessary at the Elisabethkai. Through the design concept, the protective structure simultaneously fulfils the necessary cross-linking to the bank and the usability as an inviting, usable urban structure.

The shore section between the state bridge and the railway bridge is a part of the shore promenade, which is used daily by many residents and tourists. On sunny days you can hardly find a seat on a bench and the lawn is populated by people. The promenade is widened by a slight elevation and accompanied by the old riverside avenue, providing enough space for everyone. The integration of the shelter adds value by forming a solid base at seating height throughout. At selected points, there are wooden supports and various passage types that allow easy crossing of the low wall. The sensitive handling of a special iridescent concrete mix gives the element a special character.
