Culture place Reutlingen

The Bruderhaus machine factory was located on the industrial site from about 1849 to about 1993. At the beginning of the 1990s, the last of the remaining industrial buildings were demolished. The design approach takes up the historical components of the former industrial use.

The listed Krankenhäusle, as the last contemporary witness, receives its own identity through the revived historical reference opposite the Stadthalle. The scale and the ordering principle of the Bruderhaus site are restored.

The "footprint" of the historic factory area is punched out on the Kulturplatz, traced and interpreted with a wide variety of materials: The former large machine hall becomes an enclosed large lawn, the former factory roads between the factory buildings are produced as in-situ concrete surfaces with interspersed metal chips. The former steam boiler house becomes a water feature with fountains and spray nozzles. A robust industrial floor (ground mastic asphalt) integrates the water outlets: Fine "vaporous" water mist thematizes the former use. The former coal bunkers are interpreted by a dark coating of basalt chippings grouted with synthetic resin.

The tree grid Bruderhausgelände is consistently maintained, culture place and skate park integrated into it. Under the heading 'Stay, play and move in the Bürgerpark', the skate park was developed in a public participation process with young people from Reutlingen.
