Tampere is a city surrounded by water and offers many special places. This new urban development called Eteläpuisto is nevertheless on its way to becoming one of the most exquisite locations. Located on the edge of the city centre, right by Lake Pyshäjärvi, it connects the central Laukontori Square with the nature park that stretches west along the lake. So you live close to the city centre and still have nature on your doorstep. The connection out of the city is created by a varied sequence of different experiences along the waterfront. The park located on the eastern edge of the area offers many sporting opportunities and walks along the waterfront. The Ratina Club Restaurant, built between the bridge piers, transforms this infrastructure colossus into a destination. Turning the corner to the south side of the area opens up the Viinikanlahti promenade, which is sure to be busy in the future. Formerly used as a cargo port, the seawalls are broken by stairs, wooden decks and water accesses. The buildings are arranged perpendicular to the promenade and the heads of the buildings will be developed into restaurants, galleries and shops. Between the buildings, gardens and pocket parks are repeatedly pushed up to the shore walls. Here, too, a varied recreational atmosphere is to be created. The western end of the new Eteläpuisto development will be a lakeside pak, which will form a transition to the typical Finnish lake forest landscape. Water sports facilities on the lake and viewing paths and platforms up in the forest will create a framework for active recreation close to the city.
