In 2005, the Riem Landscape Park was awarded first prize in the German Landscape Architecture Prize 2005 competition and was the venue for the Federal Garden Show in the same year.

Jury verdict: The transformation of the old Munich-Riem airport site into a modern service and residential location with the highest standards for public spaces allowed for a competition for the landscape corridor between the construction fields and the surrounding landscape. For the 200-hectare site, the authors' concept "A Park without Borders" won the competition, which was realized en détail and with the greatest care over a planning and construction period of almost ten years.

The stringent design concept of the forest massifs in the expanse of space sets an unmistakable signification for the site and standards for a contemporary, innovative approach to this landscape space. At the same time, a user-friendliness can be recognized.

Each of the reduced design means used, such as the choice of vegetation and materiality, the existing diagonal, the topography as well as the color up to artificial settlements, reveal a poetic overall concept, which gives the place an extraordinarily unique ambience and a positive aura. The park creates a distinctive identity for the site and makes a new exemplary contribution to the theme of parks and contemporary garden art.
