With the "Hafenkante" project, GEWOBA is participating in a project company together with other partners in the development of a new residential quarter in Bremen's Überseestadt. For this purpose, 10 mixed teams of structural and landscape architects were invited to participate in a realization competition. An ensemble of multi-family houses is to be built on a 6,000 square metre site on the waterside Überseepromende, one of which will have commercial space on the ground floor. Here, a water-oriented square with outdoor gastronomy is planned, which also invites people to play and linger. The purely residential buildings are grouped in perimeter blocks around a green, private inner courtyard.

On the competition design for outdoor facilities:

The design of the outdoor facilities takes up the special features of the site. Wide open spaces, wind and water characterize the landscape and vegetation. At this location with its maritime character, pine trees shaped by the wind should define the outdoor space and reflect the exposed location. Together with these, green areas with tall growing grasses convey images of shore zones and dune-like vegetation.

The public square is set off from the driving and walking areas by a water-bound surface. Stylized "dunes" formed from prefabricated concrete seating elements also incorporate grasses and pines. In the garden courtyard, small garden courtyards located in front of the individual apartments are delimited by man-high walls and to the semi-public areas with hedges.

The outdoor area in front of the planned studio apartments is zoned by a bar of hedge elements. The alley situation between the garden walls and hedges creates privacy in the open space, while between houses 3 and 4 a lawn opens up to the banks of the Weser and provides a view of the river and ships.
