An industrial port site such as "Graf Bismarck" offers outstanding textures for the development of high-quality open spaces with a high quality of stay following the abandonment of its original use. Two squares, to the east and west, and a waterfront promenade along the old loading crane track will be made usable with design elements that are characteristic of the location. The direct connection to the water is promoted by a passenger ship jetty in the east and a boat slipway in the west. A seating step system stands out strikingly from the asphalt surface sloping down to the water in the direction of the slipway. A raft platform is located on the level near the water, in keeping with the material atmosphere of the location. Highlights such as tetrapod-shaped bollards and dynamically shaped plant beds underline the special character of the location at the harbour head. Seamless surfacing, such as mastic asphalt with light-colored top granules and in-situ concrete surfaces, characterize the entire layout of the new harbor area. Concrete slab strips with lettering refer to the inland waterway vessels sailing on the Rhine-Herne Canal. In addition to the row of mooring bollards, gently curved concrete lounge furniture on the promenade provides seating in the harbor area.
