The Zepernick elementary school was extended by a new two-storey building. As part of this construction project, a variety of open spaces were created, connecting the new and old buildings and integrating the ensemble into the landscape along the Panke river.

The main entrance to the extension is located in the transition area to the old schoolyard and is accessed from Möserstraße. The schoolyard extension was constructed with concrete block paving, into which natural stone strips were incorporated for structuring and drainage.

A ramp leads from the forecourt to the bicycle parking facility to the east via a cul-de-sac. New tree plantings were integrated into this facility, which can accommodate all of the school community's bicycles using space-saving bike racks.

To the east of the bicycle parking facility and in the transition area to the landscaped schoolyard, there is an intensively planted infiltration system for the roof water of the building and the paved areas of the schoolyard.

Access to the site is to the south of the school extension building. Car and disabled parking spaces for the teaching staff were created here. The parking spaces were created with grass slabs. The surface water is collected and cleaned in a grass trough, the overflow of which flows into the aforementioned infiltration system.

Access to the side entrance at the rear is via a barrier-free ramp and two staircases. These form a raised terrace in front of the building, which connects to a planted embankment that runs around the building as a planted front garden with ground cover and shrubs.
