University Square and Borgias Square Redesign of the University Square and the Borgias Square in Fulda

The new construction of the parking garage has made it possible to redesign the urban space at the interface between Fulda's historic old town and the gridded Wilhelminian quarter in a more generous and open way. Delivery zones and access roads to the underground car park have been reorganised, and the high-quality urban space has been considerably extended.

The listed Karstadt building by Sepp Ruf dominates the square as a striking solitaire, originally also designed by Ruf.
The clear structure of Ruf's grid, reinterpreted from shell limestone slabs, is accentuated by a sycamore grove, which lies slightly elevated in the sloping square. A shady place to stay with a view over the square and also a place of remembrance. Illuminated seating elements and fountains are lined up along the row of shops, offering a place to stay and play.
