Settlement Klanggarten Modernisation of the 1960s housing estate in Cologne-Urbach

The Klanggarten estate from the 1960s is being modernised and harmoniously complemented by new buildings. In the future, the Klanggarten quarter will offer the quality of a small urban district with a variety of offers for different users. For families with many children, people with limited mobility and modern living communities, space will be created in new buildings. A kindergarten offers care for 80 children.

The open space also presents itself with a new face. With the new sound garden, an integrative garden is composed, which with its different "sound colours" invites all residents to define the use of the spaces for themselves. The protected inner world is spatially defined by the beautiful tree population. Bushes are removed in order to bring out this clear, transparent spatial structure. Gardens bordered with hedges provide the ground floor residents with private open spaces throughout the quarter and act as a buffer in front of the apartment windows. The entrances to the houses divide the communally usable spaces into a network of hedges, flower meadows, play lawns and sandy areas.
