Lecture Hall Centre University Duisburg-Essen Outdoor facilities for the new building of the lecture hall centre at the Essen campus

The auditorium centre is located directly on Gladbecker Straße. Due to its building structure, it offers a connecting space between Mayer-Schwickerath-Strasse in the north with the adjoining campus and the new park in the south. The site rises relatively steeply to the west and to the park. The existing topography offers the opportunity to create open spaces that mediate between the different levels of use.

To the north, a drivable ramp leads to the campus-oriented entrance. A slightly projecting wall absorbs the height difference to the sidewalk of the planned street. The paving of the ramp is continued in the entrance area of the building and also on the plateau to the south. The entrance courtyard lies between the levels of Gladbecker Straße and the park. The terrain jumps are bridged in each case by generous stairways. Another ramp provides barrier-free access to the park.
The lawn transitioning from the auditorium center to the park is covered with several trees. Another large tree stands on the entrance plateau to the auditorium centre. It is a point of identification and a welcome source of shade.
Floor spotlights illuminate the facades in the area of the walkways. The ramps and stairs are illuminated by recessed wall luminaires. On the plateau, a floor spotlight sets the scene for the tree; in addition, the glass foyer provides lighting for the outdoor space.
