Design of the public green spaces adjacent to the park of the Federal Chancellery

Initial situation:
Due to its location on the Spree River, the Moabiter Werder was used as a packing yard site and construction material storage area until the development of the government quarter. With the relocation of the Federal Government to Berlin, the site took on a new significance as a residential and leisure location and as the direct opposite of the Federal Chancellery, whose park is located on the Moabiter Werder, surrounded by the Nordallee and the Südallee.
Concept:
The avenues are part of the "Band des Bundes", which was developed in an international competition by the architects Schultes and Frank. The implementation of this idea was part of the planning task. An existing Robinia grove interrupts the avenues. In addition, for the first time in Berlin's history, a continuous river promenade was created. This is part of the new Spreeuferpromenaden, with which the city turns to the river.
Materials:
The materials used correspond to those of the other riverbank sections and relate as far as possible to the history of the site. The dominant walls, which intercept the difference in elevation between the waterfront and the avenues, are faced with a limestone that was also used on the other sections of the promenade.
