Haidpark, Munich-Fröttmaning Ecological and cost-effective building on Fröttmaninger Heide in the north of the city of Munich

The settlement in the immediate vicinity of the fauna-flora habitat of the Fröttmaninger Grasheide was developed from 1998 to 2006 as a pilot project together with 3 architectural firms and the Bayerische Landessiedlungsgesellschaft parallel to the political decision-making process.

Houses and apartments with high ecological standards should be affordable for everyone. Due to a space-saving development model and the minimisation of the footprint of the buildings, 30 he total area is available as public green spaces, on which a neighbourhood park in the south, a transition zone to the heath and two green belts in east-west direction were planned as open spaces close to the apartments. With intermediate storage in green roofs, low soil sealing and a trough-french drain system in the green links, an effective rainwater system was provided.

Quarter park

The southern green space of the new quarter will become a generous meadow park and entrance to the settlement, with sunlit areas slightly to deeply shaded by trees for play and sport or simply a quiet stay. An existing grove of old pines, some of which have grown bizarrely, frames the building site for a day-care centre. Complementary plantings thin out to form open meadow areas.
In the middle of the park, the so-called play harp is a point of attraction for children and young people: A traditional wooden scaffold for drying hay, common in the Southern Alps, was the model for the colorful wooden structure with different levels, climbing ropes and nets, hammocks and giant slides.

Residential quarter with predominantly social housing

2007 - 2011 saw the planning and construction of the open spaces for the eastern residential quarter.
A long building block shields the inner courtyard-like open spaces with their play and recreation areas from the subway line. Its rear side receives a filter of columnar poplars, which accompanies the path along the railway tracks. Pines, oaks, rowan trees and cherries grow on an underground car park, which is assigned to the multi-storey residential building.
