Historic quiet zone in the big city

Planned in 1853 by Peter Joseph Lenné, Mariannenplatz has undergone considerable changes to this day. In the 1950s and 1970s, it was fundamentally redesigned. In coordination with the State Office for the Protection of Monuments, it was to be redesigned. The tree population and the current use as an urban quiet zone and event location were taken into account.


Park character with a well-kept overall impression

In the entire square, the lighting was restored according to the historical model. The two main paths were narrowed and newly laid out with water-bound surfacing. The pavement at the main entrance at the former Bethanien-Stift, the Kreuzberg Art Office, was renovated. The roundabout was paved with granite small stones with a lawn joint, the stairs there were given new granite steps. The lawn and planting areas were revised and partially edged with zoo tape, the planting was cut and supplemented by low plants.

The entire environment of the church St. Thomas underwent a redesign: The routing at the main entrance was rebuilt according to historical models, rose beds and column yews set additional accents.
