Extension of the Designer Garden

The designer garden was awarded a prize in the 2004 North Rhine-Westphalia state competition "A beautiful piece of nature", and in 2006 the garden received recognition as part of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landscape Architecture Prize. In 2007 it was nominated for the international garden architecture award "best private plots" in Austria. The open dialogue between the client, the architect and the landscape architect led to an integrative planning result, which made the house and the garden a creative unity. The task was to create a low-maintenance garden in keeping with a functional "Bauhaus architecture" with clear dimensional units and transparency. A ten-metre long architectural water basin in front of the glass façade becomes a mirror and a connecting element between the house and the garden. The water surface is like the window of the garden. It brings the light in and with the mirroring the boundaries between inside and outside disappear. Architecturally, too, the garden forms a visual axis through the house. The building is protected from view by an
overgrown reed structure wall (concrete) in the depth of the
1,200 square meter property.
The building materials are oriented to the building design and are in strict architecture and colorful restrained
inserted. The vegetation stands in form and color seasonally in dynamic contrast to the open space architecture.
