The houses of the Nine Tree Village residential ensemble in the hilly landscape near the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou look as if they have been washed down into the valley by a river. Prudent and responsible building in harmony with nature is becoming increasingly important in China, and Nine Tree Village is an example of this. Houses and open spaces blend naturally into the hillside, respecting the poetry of the place. Nothing is meant to disturb the tranquility and peaceful atmosphere here, so the driveways and parking garages have been moved underground. The site itself is only accessible by foot.

When designing the open spaces, it was essential to look closely and intensively at the site and its natural resources. Both the selection and the arrangement of the plants are based on the plant species and garden culture from this climatically favored region. Subtropical plants such as orange magnolia, camellia, jasmine and blue vine are typical of this climatic zone. And so you will find many plants in the gardens of Nine Tree Village that are also very popular in European gardens, since they originate from this Far Eastern part of the world.
The harmonious unity of natural and artificial environment characterizes the atmosphere of this residential complex. The slope lines of the wooded valley have been translated into the layout of the paths and plantings. Water lines line the paths and the babbling brook gives the valley its special aura.
