Idea:

The planned city park expansion fits into the tradition of the park foundations by Mr. von Stieber. With the 'Lohbeeten', it brings to a new use cultivated land that has been cultivated for many years. The formerly developed structures are reshaped by new layers, but remain recognizable as a basic pattern.

Design approaches:

1.Opening of the tan beds:
By giving up private ownership (real division), larger area structures for community uses are made possible (play, sports, sunbathing lawn).
These are accessed by a central path axis across the center. Together with a path that is oriented to the existing cross-parcelling, it joins together to form a development grid.

2.Extension of the city park:
As if by self-seeding, a new grove of trees is created in front of the previous park and forest edge. Thus the process of the park extension becomes readable, both park parts - tan beds and forest - connect.

3.Preservation of the basic structure:
The basic pattern of the parcelling of gardens and fields is retained in the design, but now on a larger scale with larger areas. To structure this, larger hedge structures are required: tree hedges, groves. Traditional structures and elements are retained and reinstated: Salfner House with new 'Lohweiher', gardens in the area of the old allotment.

4.Zoning of uses:
The ribbon-like basic structure of the spatial layout enables a zoning of uses along the central path axis from active (sports) to contemplative (flower meadow) areas. These are oriented towards the existing user groups in the catchment area (families with children, senior citizens, singles...).

5.The park must be able to be laid out and maintained within an economically justifiable framework. Simplicity in material and form as well as the use of existing structures for new content (grandstand for open-air stage on existing rampart, garden areas in the area of the former garden, pond facility at the low point of the site, etc.) serve this purpose just as much as they enhance the identity of the site.

Open space concept:

A promenade opens up the new park area by connecting the area of the Stadthalle with the Wohnstift Augustinum and bypassing the existing private garden (Flst.Nr. 617/1, 618) without constrictions and connecting the historic Salfnerhäuschen. It is distinguished by a row of trees consisting of columnar poplars and is situated in a water-bound area with which it forms a central area ("magistrale"). From here, the transition to the adjacent areas takes place: meadows, tree groves, gardens.

On this magistrale, the former small division of the property parcels can be read through trimmed hedges, while the now larger area contexts on the adjacent meadow areas are bordered by bands of large copses, which divide the overall space into sub-areas with different uses and contents. As strict grove grids, they represent characteristic planting themes with different moods : Cherry and Norway Maple Avenue, Birch and Hazel Grove).

The land uses and contents are pragmatically derived from the given and redefined conditions:
-sport and play at the town hall and the fairground (active area, theme Sportstadt Roth/Triathlon),
-public gardens in the former allotment area,
-Open-air stage on existing embankment in the area of the fairground
-Flanning and lingering areas under the groves of trees of the woodland strips and the forest edge

The park is accessed via entrances 'Am Stadtpark' as well as at the southern edge of the forest from Otto-Schrimpff-Strasse and the access south of the senior citizens' residential home. In addition, a path linkage will be introduced centrally from the retirement home. The internal path system is oriented to the plot structure.

Thematic focal points during the garden show and afterwards are

-Water
Moving water (vertical and horizontal) at the entrance areas in artificial form: At the entrance city park as a water basin with fountains, at the entrance senior citizens' residence as a cascading stream
Standing water in natural form : New 'Lohweiher' = pond near the Salfnerhaus.

-Sport/play
New adventure playground as well as play and sports meadow south of Festwiese

-Seniors and young families
Play and sports field as active areas also for seniors
Citizen gardens as zones of encounter
Liegewiese as quiet zones

The horticultural focus area during the LGS is in the area of the former allotment garden and along the promenade. Here the garden and planting themes as well as the work of associations and clubs can be presented in a compact way.

Facilitating measures will be taken in the area of the fairground and its traffic connection by clarifying the pavement and use structures and the western hall apron (beer garden/tree canopy, entrance situation park between the town hall and the Schützenhaus). In addition, the unsatisfactory playground situation west of the Schützenhaus will be resolved by relocating to the new adventure playground in the Lohbeeten.
For the triathlon, the option of the new transition zone for bicycles is offered in the area of the play and sports meadow.
