The Gifiz peninsula is part of a green belt around the Gifiz lake and provides the Uffhofen district with local recreational opportunities. Within the framework of a citizen participation process "Bürgerwerkstatt" (Citizens' Workshop), a start was made in 2001 on the planning development of this valuable open space. Then there was a pause for reflection due to the city's application for a garden show. In 2007, the topic became topical again, now more urgent than ever, as the green spaces had only been extensively maintained over the years.
The peninsula was subsequently to be developed in affordable individual construction phases; in the first step, the central avenue with a promenade, benches and lights was created as a guideline for the subsequent further development.
