Germany Headquarters LiDL

The German headquarters of the discounter LIDL will be relocated from Neckarsulm to Bad Wimpfen, ten kilometers away, by 2021. The new building is being constructed at the interface of town and country. While the planning area directly adjoins the previous, western settlement edge in the east, agricultural land borders the site in the north, south and west. The surrounding landscape areas and their structures serve as the basis for the developed open space concept.

This envisages allowing the landscape character of the surrounding areas to flow from the
scattered fruit meadow to the west into the planning area. This creates a curved design form,
which creates a smooth transition into the surrounding area. Another defining design element results from the existing topography of the area. In relation to the building design, the different heights also remain visible as levels in the open space design and thus form an identity-creating aspect and an exciting connection to the futuristic architecture. The different levels are formed as terraced green spaces, reminiscent of rice fields in Asia, and thus offer an exciting connection to the architecture.
