The Konrad Zuse School (vocational school) in Berlin-Pankow with a special focus on craftsmanship in apprenticeships and pre-vocational training for students will receive a new workshop wing at the front of the property on Herrmann-Hesse-Straße.

This will eliminate half of the current break yard area in favor of the new 2-storey workshop building.

The aim is to design the remaining open space in such a way that a high quality of stay is created and as many of the existing and protected trees (lime and Scots pine) as possible are preserved.

The new playground will correspond (as an extension and widening of the content) with the functional areas of the workshops (wood and metal workshop) of the new building, and a dialog will also be established with the teaching areas of the existing building. This gives the break area several functional areas, which are distributed decentrally in the area and connected to the central main path by "guiding bands".

Pupils should be able to learn about proportions, measurements, volumes and units in a playful way in the outdoor space. Using guiding strips and markings in the floor coverings as well as the outdoor furniture, pupils are encouraged to consciously perceive, analyze and experience their environment ("outdoor pedagogy").
