On a building planning scale, the design aims to develop flexible and versatile, transparent compartments with a high interior quality, ideal lighting and high identification potential for pupils and teachers. The clear building geometry was designed to provide the most generous, easily visible outdoor areas possible on the site, while taking into account the economic and ecological framework conditions and smooth implementation. Due to noise emissions from the adjacent roads and railroad lines, unbuildable sewage pressure pipes and a plot that is too small, it is all the more important to develop a sophisticated program.

The main response to this objective is the positioning of the school building on the western boundary of the site. Focal points are set in the exterior space, residual spaces along the façade are avoided and the school is given a face towards the street Am Breiten Luch. A forecourt is positioned in front of the façade at the main entrance. It extends the narrow walkway and offers the many pupils sufficient space to arrive, wait and meet. The open space design creates three zones that can be experienced intuitively: The active center around the entrance foyer and the cafeteria terrace, a green and tree-lined intermediate zone and the activated edge. The wall along the street meets the requirements for noise protection and also offers play and recreational areas. The entire schoolyard is used and enlivened right down to the last corner. Integrated into the wall are, for example, an amphitheater with planting areas, a garden house and a football pitch. Basketball hoops at different heights appeal to different age groups. There are opportunities for pupils to withdraw, but also places where they can gather in larger groups. The niches and corners of the wall, groves of trees and the spaces between the buildings offer these different spatial qualities.
