In September 2011, POLA completed all construction phases of the realization competition for the redesign of Freundschaftsinsel in Potsdam, which was won in 2006. The task was to integrate the garden monument Freundschaftsinsel with the landscape interventions of the new bridge construction into the overall ensemble in accordance with the stipulations of monument law and the specified compensatory measures. Through the design of the terraced bands, the park, shortened by 16m due to the construction of the bridge, blends imperceptibly into the bridge level, which has been raised by 2.5 metres in height. At the interface between the bridge and the landscape, a new park area with a distant view over the island is formed. Here - as a link between the railway station and the new building of the state parliament - a new urban entrée with recreational qualities in the green has been created. By means of new riverside paths and a riverside square, the Inselpark has been directly connected on all sides to the two arms of the Havel River for the first time.
