WKM landscape architects (WEBER KLEIN MAAS) have provided the service phase 1-9 according to HOAI.

The project Hafenspitze includes the new construction of a hotel and an office building as mirrored, cantilevered high-rise buildings, as well as a separate office building on the tip of the headland in the media port of Düsseldorf. The project emerged from a joint competition with the office JSK-Düsseldorf in 2001. The architecture was realized by sop Architekten, as successor of JSK-Düsseldorf.

The goal of the exterior design was to integrate the buildings into the urban concept of the Media Harbour and at the same time to emphasize the buildings in their exposed position at the tip of the headland.

The open spaces are divided into two areas. On the one hand, the forecourt area and the promenade at ground floor level, and on the other hand, the open spaces on the plateau (1st floor), which can be reached via generous staircases.

The Hafenspitze urban development project comprises the construction of a new hotel and two office buildings on the tip of the Landzuge in Düsseldorf's Media Harbour. The project emerged from a joint competition with the office JSK Architekten - Düsseldorf in 2001. The architecture was realized by sop Architekten, as successor of JSK - Düsseldorf.
The aim of the design of the outdoor facilities was to integrate the buildings into the urban concept of the Media Harbour and at the same time to highlight the buildings in their exposed position at the tip of the headland.
A particular challenge was the handling of the listed embankment, which was removed and restored in the course of the construction work, and the fact that the majority of the outdoor facilities had to be constructed on underbuilt areas.
Users of the open spaces at the tip of the harbour are the guests of the Hyatt Hotel and the public, as all open spaces and buildings are occupied by a public right of way.

The open spaces are divided into two areas. On the one hand, the right-of-way area and the promenade at ground floor level, and on the other hand, the open spaces on the plateau (1st floor), which can be reached via generous staircases.
The newly created area is bordered by the waterfront promenade, which connects to the existing harbor promenade and leads around the tip.
The right-of-way area itself is separated from the urban paving by light-colored large-format tiles and creates a smooth transition from the private to the public area. The large format slabs from the right-of-way area are also used on the plateau. Between the projecting parts of the building, the slabs take up the grid of the buildings and the course of the joints of the right-of-way area. This creates the impression of an overall surface, which extends from the forecourt up to the plateau and connects the two building parts with each other.
The plateau is enclosed by generous seating steps, from here the visitor has an unrestricted view over the harbour and the Rhine promenade of the state capital. The lawns above the seating steps are criss-crossed by winding paths. Raised beds planted with red dogwood and evergreen iris flank the glass ventilation shafts.
The pavilion in the tip area is used by the Hyatt Hotel as a bar and is available to hotel guests and all other visitors to the Hafenspitze. During the summer months, cushions on the seating steps and a mobile bar on the plateau provide an additional invitation to linger.

In consideration of the lighting master plan of the city of Düsseldorf for the Media Harbour, an overall concept for the lighting at the Hafenspitze was developed and implemented for the building and the outdoor facilities.
The consistent use of one colour family for all coverings, steps and edgings creates a harmonious overall impression. The light base colour has a friendly and inviting effect and once again highlights the dark buildings.
