The future workshop "Elfrather See" brought together key players from administration, politics, clubs and associations to collect ideas on how to make the 138 ha recreational park "Elfrather See" more attractive, which has been the subject of (so far inconclusive) conversion and redesign considerations within Krefeld for years. In the course of the workshop, concrete ideas and proposals for the future function, equipment and design of the lake were generated and possible sponsorship models were discussed.
The Erfrather See recreation park, which covers a total of 138 ha, has been the subject of conversion and redesign considerations for several years. As robust and heavily used as the water sports area with the rowing course and the sailing quarter in the west is, the development of the bathing lake area in the east of the recreation park is contrary. Highly frequented in earlier times with thousands of day visitors in fine summer weather, the bathing lake has become a very underutilized recreational site. Attempts to attractively redevelop the area by bringing in private investment have so far failed. In addition, high goose populations have occupied the area. The bathing lake has fallen into "disrepute", and it is also in a downward spiral in the media.
Politics and administration-spreading under inclusion of many key players of associations and federations a project group "future workshop Elfrather lake" was created, which developed ideas for a total solution of the problem in the context of the one-day workshop, which aim at a robust subsequent use of the bath lake as "low-threshold" and use-diversified local recreation offer with bath use for the population and guests of the city Krefeld. In conclusion, all present stakeholders from clubs, associations, politics and administration expressed their great interest in continuing to work with commitment on suitable steps to stabilize the Elfrather SeePark and a positive development of the bathing lake in particular and to want to actively participate in a possible sponsor or support association.
