TOPOTEK 1 was founded in 1996 and is directed by Martin Rein-Cano and Lorenz Dexler, and since 2014 with Francesca Venier. It sees itself as a border crosser - as a wanderer in the border areas of different genres, typologies and scales. TOPOTEK 1 is rooted in the field of the design of urban open spaces and the treatment of urban planning themes, but also undertakes excursions into the conception and realization of exhibitions and art installations.
The hybridization of these themes, the removal and transfer of things from their context into another, is thus in the central interest of the office.
The work of TOPOTEK 1 has received numerous awards, including the German Urban Design Award and the German Architecture Award, most recently the reddot Design Award Best of the Best, the IOC / IAKS Architecture Award and the Honor of National AIA Awards of the American Institute of Architects.
