The design for the outdoor facilities develops thematically from the function and use of the building as a hotel management school and at the same time arises from the desire for a Mediterranean-like space. The emphasis on the square-like character of the enclosed courtyard creates a shady, lively place that offers a high quality of stay based on the materials used.

Structurally, the courtyard is initially divided into the outer development frame, which connects the old building with the new building and thus represents the movement space. Set off from this, the inner retreat space forms an attractive place to linger. This is strengthened by the existing tree as a space-shaping and at the same time shady element.

The functional requirements of these areas are also reflected in the materials used. Here, the outer frame receives a trafficable, paved surface, while the inner area is produced as gravel fill. The fire wall of the neighbouring property to the east is accentuated in terms of design in the foot area by the planting of a hedge, which leads to a visual enlargement of the space.

The concept for the furniture in the outdoor space follows the principle of maximum flexibility. Loosely interspersed seating blocks allow for diverse use within varying group constellations as well as outdoor learning. The arrangement of the outdoor lighting also follows this principle.
