With the redesign of the narrower town centre of Thannhausen with Bahnhofstraße and the intersection of the B 300 and the state road, the urban quality of the historic town layout will be regained.
The decades-long overuse of public space by motorized traffic will be pushed back and the former functions as the Lower or Upper Market revived. Framed by the facades of the historic buildings, the "new town centre" of Thannhausen becomes visible and lively.

The reorganisation of stationary traffic both in the square area and in Bahnhofstraße creates free spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. A continuous, high-quality design of the city ground in the pedestrian areas both in the square and in the street clearly upgrades the Neue Mitte in the sense of the citizens and visitors. Plazas and plaza-like widenings in the Neue Mitte are better integrated into the system of public open spaces in terms of design and function.
A continuous new row of trees on the east side of Bahnhofstrasse makes the elegant curve of the street visible. The strong greening of the area around the grocery store segues into the greener urban areas to the east.
Water fountains serve as a "noise curtain" to screen traffic noise. With the installation of lighting and seating, the town hall square will in future offer a wide range of places to stay during the day and in the evening, as well as throughout the year.
