The urban planning competition for the design of the surroundings of Remscheid main station within the framework of the Regionale 2006 was won by Davids | Terfrüchte Partner and PASD Feldmeier.

With the inauguration of the north footbridge in August 2011, this district-connecting everyday route can unfold its full power. It supports the mobility offensive in favour of slow and environmentally friendly transport.

In addition to the careful design of the north and south footbridges as barrier-free and safe everyday routes, the new station environment is characterised by the high-quality development of the public open spaces. These create a natural orientation in the urban space and shape an unusually green station character with numerous opportunities to stay.
