Creation of a new landscape park on the site of the former sugar factory in Regensburg.
A new urban district is being created on the site of the former Regensburg sugar factory. Various developers are realizing a mixed construction area with different types of housing, kindergartens, offices and senior living, based on a development concept by the architectural firm Auer und Weber from Munich.
The neighborhood park stretches between the residential development and the adjacent railway area. The main feature of the green area is the linear chain of hills with clear edges, whose cubature visually reduces the eleven-metre-high noise barrier and at the same time allows views from the Valhalla over the harbour to Regensburg's old town. Analogous to the terrain modelling, a footpath and cycle path meanders through the park, past flower meadows, gabion walls and columnar trees.
The central children's play area was developed in workshops with children from the surrounding schools. The play concept traces the process of sugar production from beets, starting with the beet washing plant, through delivery by trucks, to the refinery tower.
