The Green Pot is a Jurassic karst spring, which comes to light on a downward sealing marl layer at the foot of the slope east of the outskirts of Grösdorf. The spring is connected to various sinkholes via the karst groundwater.
The spring water is collected and dammed in a constructed basin, the so-called spring pot. This enabled the operation of three mills in Grösdorf until around 1900.
The outflowing stream flows after less than 300 meters into the Altmühl.
The source pot has the protection status of an area natural monument and is recorded in the geotope cadastre of the LfU as a geotope.
The until recently driven by the spring water, wooden mill wheel directly below the source pot had become dilapidated. This was used by the community as an opportunity to enhance the spring pot with the spring creek and the entire surrounding area in a recreationally effective manner.
In addition to highlighting the geological and cultural-historical significance of the green pot, the measures were also intended to serve an improvement of the habitat conditions for the fauna and flora in the area of the spring and the spring creek.
The concept provides for the preservation of the rural character, but to meet the aforementioned requirements with cautious means.

In detail, the following structural measures were implemented:
Improving accessibility while reducing parking
Creating staging areas along the lower creek by widening the banks and removing the bottom
and banks of the creek.
and bank shoring
New construction of the steel mill wheel
Improvement of accessibility to the source pot by construction of a new staircase and new paths
Removal of the stream falls by conversion into invert ramps
Installation of a new fountain
Rehabilitation and integration of the existing wayside shrine
Planting of site-typical deciduous trees

The project was approved by the Amt für Ernährung, Agriculture and Forests Ingolstadt as a contribution to the implementation of the integrated development strategy of the Local Action Group (LAG) "Altmühl-Jura" classified and as a strengthening of the LEADER -area. It was clearly assigned to the field of action "Tourist development and offer development", so that the measures were supported with funds from the LEADER funding programme.
