Located on the oldest pedestrian zone in Germany, the Linnenbauerplatz in Herford also needed to distinguish it from an inner-city residual area, with the joint effort of citizens, associations, politics and administration to contest a redesign to a new point of attraction.

2004 it was then so far. The planning process with competition, intensive citizen participation and workshops had its conclusion in May 2008 by the opening celebration of the again arranged Linnenbauerplatz.

The mill brook "Bowerre" and the mill buildings coined still 50 years ago the picture. As a quotation of the formal watercourse, this part of Herford's history comes alive again in a contemporary design language.

A reduced choice of materials and forms is the attempt to recapture the heterogeneous space and create a calm counterpart to the other urban squares. Equipment developed especially for this place, such as benches, a climbing wall and the play ship, stand for the distinctiveness of this place.
