Modernization of a competition facility type C
The existing competition facility on the "Auf dem Vennberg" sports field was converted into a modern sports facility that meets the requirements of competitive, popular and school sports. The type C competition facility consists of a four-lane circular track with a six-lane short track and an indoor large playing field. In the eastern segment, facilities for triple jump, long jump and high jump have been included. All athletic sports surfaces were equipped with a cast-coated synthetic surface (surface type D, according to DIN EN 14877).
The large playing field and the western segment received a quartz sand / EPDM granulate filled synthetic turf surface (surface type 5, according to DIN EN 15330-1). The synthetic turf was laid on a bonded elastic base layer (ET layer), so that a sufficient force reduction is permanently ensured. If the synthetic turf is replaced at a later date, the ET layer can continue to be used.
A beach volleyball facility has been built to the south-east of the competition facility.
In order to reduce the wear and tear on the synthetic turf strips, improve the sliding behaviour and reduce the surface temperatures of up to 60° C that occur during strong sunlight, the synthetic turf was equipped with an automatic underfloor sprinkler system.
For decentralised rainwater management, rainwater running off the surface is first collected by drainage channels and inlets, and rain that seeps away is collected by drainage pipes. The rainwater is fed to a total of three gravel trenches via a pipe system and collected there or fed back to the groundwater.
In order to enable training at the sports facility in the evening hours, a training lighting system with an average illuminance of approx. 195 lux was installed. To reduce glare and the amount of stray light, asymmetrical planar spotlights were used.
