Modernization of a type C competition facility

The existing competition facility at the "Auf dem Vennberg" sports ground was converted into a modern sports facility that meets the requirements of competitive, popular and school sports. The type C competition facility consists of a four-lane running track with a six-lane short track and an indoor large pitch. Facilities for the triple jump, long jump and high jump have been included in the eastern segment. All athletics sports surfaces were equipped with a cast-coated synthetic surface (surface type D, in accordance with DIN EN 14877).

The large playing field and the western segment were given a synthetic turf surface filled with quartz sand / EPDM granules (surface type 5, in accordance with DIN EN 15330-1). The synthetic turf was laid on a bonded elastic base layer (ET layer) to ensure adequate force reduction in the long term. The ET layer can continue to be used if the synthetic turf is replaced at a later date.

A beach volleyball court has been built to the south-east of the competition facility.

The synthetic turf was equipped with an automatic underfloor sprinkler system in order to reduce wear on the synthetic turf strips, improve sliding behavior and reduce the surface temperatures of up to 60° C that occur in strong sunlight.

For decentralized rainwater management, rainwater that runs off the surface is first collected by drainage channels and inlets and rainwater that seeps away is collected via drainage pipes. The rainwater is fed into a total of three gravel trenches via a pipe system and collected there or fed back into the groundwater.

A training lighting system with an average illuminance of approx. 195 lux was installed to enable training on the sports facility in the evening. Asymmetrical planar floodlights were used to reduce glare and the amount of scattered light.
