The Warenmünde church square was redesigned with extensive citizen participation and from a monument preservation point of view. The square was given a uniform paving of natural stone with a green inlay in which the church rests. The front of the church was made into an open space with individual trees and shrub plantings. The area to the rear continues to serve as a parking area, but can also be used for markets and other uses. The church square also serves for events and as an outdoor seating area for the adjacent restaurant business. The adjacent streets and sidewalks were redesigned in the process and now formulate a tree-lined transition from the center to the waterfront of the Alter Strom.
