The Steinfurter Bagno, laid out in the 18th century as a park in the Baroque style and then transformed in several phases into a landscape park, became overgrown in the course of the last two centuries.
As a project of the Regionale 2004, we have developed a park concept that traces the individual layers of its development history and transforms them in a contemporary way. Historical structures and uses are made visible again with the means of contemporary landscape architecture.

Jury verdict: The project has succeeded in making the historically grown and superimposed layers of a 250-year-old park visible again and interpreting them in a contemporary way. Starting from a count's park in the French style, overlaid with Baroque elements and strongly influenced by the English landscape garden, in the meantime used for forestry, a park with a high utility value has been created, which does not cover up its development history, but rather elaborates and incorporates it as the guiding idea of the design concept.

This is achieved on the one hand through the reconstruction of the Great Avenue as a connecting element of the park, but above all through the reinterpretation of historical structures, especially the Bagno Square, the Baroque Axis and the French Garden. However, the integration of the golf course into the park is questionable.

Overall, the project is a successful example of contemporary garden art with the inclusion of aspects of species conservation.
