Redesign of a theatro verde in an urban garden.

Stage 1: Square at the music pavilion and exit to the lake:

In the old town garden of the town of Oberkirch, the square in front of the music pavilion was to be upgraded. The situation was unsatisfactory in several respects:
1. the place had a clear inclination to the city garden lake, why listeners threatened to tip backward with meetings.
2. both the pavilion, and the place range were "run down" and had no "charm". Yet this area represents the centre of the garden and should therefore be its highlight.
3. The arcade to the lake was tunnel-like and uninviting.
A Midsummer Night's Dream:
The idea of a "theatro verde" guided the design planning, as did practical considerations for improving the area functionally. We raised the square without damaging the existing yew hedge. To do this, a precast wall had to be carefully inserted between the edge of the square and the hedge, which required extensive planning and construction management. The rudimentary lime tree roundel was added. The square itself received planting columns, which are illuminated at night with ground spotlights, thus accentuating the magic of the place. During the day, the roses glow from the columns and rose arch. The latter leads down to the lake with ease, with floor spotlights also providing luminescence at night. The path has been planted at the side with Gaultheria lindheimeri, a "magic plant", and whoever, by day or by night, crosses the square may be touched by it.
Note: It would have been ideal if the furniture, which is not entirely happy in colour, had also been agreed with the planner.
