Schleidenplatz nach Umgestaltung © 2005 Andreas Süß

As the "gateway to the neighbourhood", Schleidenplatz offers residents a wide variety of places to stay in a confined space. With the principle "inside - outside", the place in Berlin-Friedrichshain is restructured and creates space for new activities through differentiated and clear spatial sequences.

With the redesign, Schleidenplatz will be spatially rezoned and enhanced in terms of design. As the gateway to the neighbourhood, the square has a stronger relationship to the edges of the space. Differentiated but clear spatial sequences offer new opportunities to stay and space for new activities such as neighbourhood festivals, a small market, meeting place and stay for all population groups. The square is divided into a "hard" part, which includes the partially traffic-calmed streets and continues under the existing tree canopy as a "promenade" and "sun terrace", and a "soft" part, the playground with the "green backbone" as a quiet zone. The design of the square takes up the concise triangular basic form, the existing playground area is revised and supplemented. Hedge plantings structure the space without restricting clarity and social control.
