Large preserved existing trees provide immediate atmosphere in the new residential area. An important design theme is height levels and transitions, as large areas of the inner courtyard are underbuilt with an underground car park. A stepped area with integrated seating blocks leads over to the root area of the trees. In the common area there are playground areas with sand and pebble surfacing, bordered with seating elements made of cast stone and planted steel troughs. A steel footbridge forms the barrier-free connection to the ground floor level.
The residential development of Baufeld 8 in the Kirchfeld-Nord district of Karlsruhe was a competition success (1st prize) and was awarded as exemplary after its realisation in 2013.
