The former NATO military airfield Fürstenfeldbruck is to be converted into a special area with the subsequent uses of a driver safety centre, a driver training centre for the Bavarian police, a trotting track and a community sports centre, and also to accommodate the new Maisach bypass.

At the same time, the area with its extensive lowland meadows and calcareous dry grasslands is registered as an FFH area "Fürstenfeldbruck Airport". Since half of the relevant components of this European protected area will be lost as a result of the project or will lose their faunistic functions due to fragmentation, there will be considerable adverse effects.

This means that the project is only permissible if an exceptional permit is granted. This presupposes that compelling reasons of overriding public interest can be asserted, that priority is given to the avoidance requirement and that the coherence of Natura 2000 is maintained by extensive development measures in the near and wider vicinity of the project.
