Schillerpark Berlin-Wedding Garden monument conservation concept and garden monument conservation restoration of the Bristolstraße promenade, play area and paddling pool

The Schiller Park in Berlin-Wedding was laid out between 1909 and 1913 according to a competition design by the garden architect Friedrich Bauer from Magdeburg and is considered the "first modern park creation in Berlin" (HEGEMANN, 1913).
To secure and preserve the Schiller Park in accordance with its garden-artistic, urban and social-historical significance, a garden monument conservation concept was developed in 2003 (TOPOS, BERGANDE, 2003)
With the help of the World Heritage Support Programme, the central promenade of Bristolstraße with and the northern edge of the park were repaired on behalf of the Tiefbau- und Landschaftsplanungsamt Mitte in Berlin (2009-2011). The play street on the former southern roadway, which had been established since the 1970s, was redesigned into a play strip in accordance with the requirements of monument preservation.
As an essential element of the reform efforts after 1910, the first Berlin splash pad could be restored in accordance with the original design. The used splash water is no longer discharged daily into the sewage system, as was the case until then, but seeps into the restored Märkische rinne in the park.
