The clear connection to the city centre and the visualisation of the historical traces make the Burgplatz once again perceivable as the nucleus of Essen in terms of dimension and design as an urban square.
The redesign of the Burgplatz in Essen goes back to a competition won in 2001. Together with the office wkm landscape architects from Düsseldorf wbp had won the ! Prize. The 1st construction phase was realized 2002 - 2003 in a joint venture of the two offices. The 2nd construction phase was realized 2007 - 2009 by the office wbp landscape architects.
