The sports facility in Gruiten urgently needed to be reworked due to a significant reduction in water permeability. The grain material of the surface was ground up to a large extent and clear penetrations were visible over the entire court surface. In many places the material of the dynamic layer was played upwards and there was a high risk of accidents.

In the design planning, a total of three variants were examined and the costs for this were determined. Realized were 2 round running tracks as well as 4 short distance running tracks with a synthetic surface. In the area of the large playing field, a sand-rubber (TPE new rubber granulate) filled artificial turf was laid.
Originally, the circular track was to be omitted for cost reasons, but could then be secured for recreational, school and club sports.

A striking feature of the sports facility is the 110 m long noise barrier made of gabion baskets, which was necessary after the noise protection report in the direction of the residential development.
