Pablo Neruda Garden, Berlin-Friedrichshain Public green space of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district central library

The conversion of the former Franz Fühmann School into the district central library "Pablo Neruda", which was funded by the Urban Redevelopment East program, has brought a decisive upgrade for the educational location at Frankfurter Allee 14a, which is providing impetus for the sustainable development of the entire district. In a second step, the open spaces at the site will be redesigned in four construction phases from 2013 to 2017. This includes the area around the library as well as the open spaces and sports facilities of the neighboring Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium.



With the completion of the second construction phase, the Pablo Neruda Garden, the architecturally outstanding library building was given an appropriate setting. In the lively Simon-Dach-Kiez district with its many bars and pubs, this small park is a hidden island of tranquillity. Its defining elements are a large lawn with sun loungers, a Himalayan birch grove and a long garden bench with tables. A square-like widening in the circular path is available for readings and library events.
