The Zayed National Museum will be a whole new experience for Abi Dhabi residents and visitors from around the world. The building itself is hidden under a landscape and only the "falcon wings", up to 100 m high, are visible. Five spacious galleries suspended in the wings will focus on the past and future of the young state.
The garden will be the sixth gallery, a space for rest, tranquility and contemplation. A garden that will correspond thematically with the rooms in the museum. It will feature almost exclusively native plants, will use state-of-the-art water-efficient irrigation systems, and will be watered only with recycled water. The soil has been specially designed for this purpose and is an essential part of the unique slope protection system.
Fountains and waterfalls have been designed to periodically create cooler climatic areas, making it more pleasant to spend time outside.
Sheik Zayed grew up in the desert and still knew very well how essential each and every animal and plant, no matter how inconspicuous, was to the survival of his people. A sustainable way of life was imperative. This centuries-old knowledge is to be made accessible again in the garden and campfires are to burn again, where the imaginative stories of the forefathers are told.
