Citizen participation for the 'Park am Wald' in Taufkirchen Participation Day in October 2019

In late summer warm and sunny weather, the big participation day for the upgrading of the Park am Wald took place on 18 October. The opportunity to express their ideas for the redesign and the attractive supporting program attracted numerous Taufkirchen residents of all ages to the park.

Under the motto 'OUR PARK AM WALD - WE PLAN TOGETHER - JOIN IN', Mayor Ullrich Sander opened the participation day on the large lawn near the sledding hill. Afterwards, citizens were able to inform themselves about the first steps towards upgrading the park in specially erected pavilions at three central locations in the park on the basis of our plans. The three guided park walks, during which we presented the concept and were able to collect a large number of suggestions and wishes for the areas to be redesigned, were very popular.

Some points that are already known to the community of Taufkirchen as important topics for the upgrading were mentioned again and again: For example, many citizens are concerned about improving the lighting situation, but also a more diverse range of seating and activities. The valuable tree population was also frequently praised as a special quality of the park that should be preserved at all costs. In addition, the citizens also brought in many new, interesting aspects and ideas.

The project team, consisting of representatives of the municipality, the Socially Integrative City and us planners, was very pleased that the offer to participate was so actively used by citizens of different age groups - from young parents and adults to senior citizens, children and young people. A class from the Am Wald elementary school even used a lesson to participate in a park walk conducted especially for them and to contribute a wide variety of ideas.

Parallel to the park walks, the accompanying sports program at the sledding hill also found enthusiastic participants. After a day of intensive discussions, the day ended in the citizens' meeting place of the 'social city'. There, Mayor Ullrich Sander first gave a short overview of the first results of the day, followed by information about the next steps. Afterwards the interested participants could strengthen themselves with discussions, beverages and a small Buffet.

The Taufkirchener supplied on this successful day by their participation valuable impulses for the further planning. In the next few weeks, we will evaluate the many suggestions, check their feasibility and develop a coherent overall concept for the Park am Wald.
