On the property of the Villa Liebieg | Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung, the expansion of the exhibition rooms is planned in the medium term. An extension is only possible into the gardens, which, together with the historic buildings, are subject to the Hessian Monument Protection Act.

While the temporal development of the buildings is well documented, comparatively little basic information was available on the gardens. For this reason, MuseumsBausteineFrankfurt GmbH commissioned a garden history study at the behest of the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments in Hesse.

The aim of the study was to record the elements that still exist today, to describe them in text and to assess their relevance to the history of the garden. The examination of the present inventory and the comparison with the historical documents showed that a uniform design concept for the open spaces has been lacking up to now. The open spaces should therefore also be included in the considerations for the structural expansion of the exhibition rooms, so that the structural elements can be presented in an appropriate design environment in the future.
