The 'Zukunft Stadtgrün' (Future Urban Greenery) programme currently offers the possibility of claiming funding for the qualification of the green and open spaces in Gropiusstadt. In order to use these funds as effectively as possible, a broad range of coordinated individual measures is to be provided. In their entirety, they are to follow a goal-oriented development strategy that is supported by the general public, the local actors and the relevant specialist departments.
Based on our own inventories and existing expert reports, the main deficits and conflicts of the green and open space structure of Gropiusstadt were worked out. This concerned in particular the network of paths, accessibility and quality of stay - but also aspects of climate adaptation and biodiversity.
With "Gropiusstadt moves!" a sustainable and catchy mission statement for Gropiusstadt was developed.
The green and open space concept highlights the existing network of paths for pedestrian and bicycle traffic as a special quality of Gropiusstadt. Here, accessibility in the form of secure road crossings is to be established as a matter of priority. In addition, objectives have been defined for the public squares and parks as well as for the social facilities, which will lead to an effective improvement of the design, functional, social and accommodation-related features.
The concept is overall implementation-oriented. In comparison with the identified deficits and conflicts as well as the objectives, it was transferred into a concrete catalogue of measures with a realisation horizon of 10-15 years.
