The new Möckernkiez as a social reference system is an identity-creating place in which the demand for a sustainable and barrier-free living environment is implemented in an exemplary manner. The buildings, designed differently by the individual architectural firms, are connected by a generous and urban open space.

Compared to the surrounding urban space, the Möckernkiez is around 4 m higher on the former track level. 5 access routes via stairs, ramps and 2 elevators provide access to the new neighborhood. Only the northern ramp provides access for maintenance vehicles and the fire department to the otherwise car-free residential area.

The semi-public open space in the form of wide paved paths and 3 squares - Kiezplatz, Stadtplatz, Yorckplatz - is a multifunctional communication area and space for movement and spending time, for people, animals and plants. Kiezplatz in particular is multifunctional and can be used as a venue for neighborhood festivals, for example.

The residential buildings are located on "green islands", which form a buffer zone between the ground-floor apartments in particular and areas for movement and recreation. Each island is framed by a band of concrete slabs, from which seating walls protrude again and again.

The courtyards are given a design framework with main paths, basic greenery and play equipment. The members are to design the courtyards successively according to their ideas and needs. The 2 southern courtyards are slightly elevated due to their location on the underground car park. Rainwater will seep into the site via infiltration trenches.
