Britz Palace Gardens were extensively restored in the 1980s and a garden maintenance program was set up.

The natural development of the trees and the use of the garden meant that a revision of the existing garden was necessary. The growth and development of the trees and shrubs had progressed to such an extent that felling, planting and pruning work was necessary.

In particular, the avenue, which originally dates back to the Baroque period, was intensively examined and worked on. Unsuitable or unstable trees were uprooted, lime trees were replanted and existing trees were pruned. In addition, perennial beds were replanted and new lawns were laid, restoring them to an attractive condition.

Detailed questions were clarified with the monument authority using graphic overlays with maps and plans from the 20th century as well as historical photos and tree appraisals.

As a result of the project, the palace garden was once again in a very attractive condition. In particular, the extensive renovation of the paths, lawns and planting areas clearly demonstrated the renewal. Careful corrections to the historic avenue were particularly evident in the increased lateral incidence of light and the appropriate lighting of the fountain.
