Mitte Altona Block Ia.02 Inner courtyard design for a residential block in Altona's new quarter

The inner courtyard of the residential complex accommodates the play and leisure areas, whereby the design concept was developed with the building groups on the basis of a restriction plan. In particular, the terrace areas as well as the distances to be maintained from the ventilation structures led to the design of an organically shaped children's play area, which was designed 'forest-like', especially since the courtyard is heavily shaded here anyway due to the urban density. Mulched areas, tree trunks, a quaint playhouse, and shade-tolerant plantings emphasize the near-natural character. The entire courtyard was underbuilt with retention boxes so that all rainwater (including that from the roof areas) can be retained in the courtyard and fed into the stormwater drainage system at a reduced rate.
